Craps is a popular dice-based casino game where players bet on the outcome of a roll, or a series of rolls, of two six-sided dice. The game begins with a “come-out roll” where the shooter (the player rolling the dice) aims to roll a 7 or 11, or avoid rolling a 2, 3, or 12. If any other number is rolled, that number becomes the “point”. The objective then shifts to rolling the point again before rolling a 7. There are various betting options, including betting on the pass line, don’t pass line, come, and don’t come, among others, each with its own set of winning conditions. Craps tables are known for their lively and social atmosphere, with players often cheering or groaning collectively based on the outcomes of the rolls.
See the Wikipedia entry on craps for more about this popular casino game and how it works.
While craps may be mentioned in passing, it was not a game that I studied and I will not focus on it in the Substack posts or on this website.
